"Sketch from the porch 08.07.07"
The air conditioner hums gurgles and spits
making the air outside just a bit heavier.
Cars crumble up their drive
Slam! crunch crunch.
Some mumbling off in the distance,
All barely intelligible with the din of
the world raging about.
Streets zoomed upon
sounding as if fighter planes have
flown a bit too low,
The chatter of a jack hammer;
However, to the calm ear
above it-- all the industrial () clanging din
of the modern world--
is the ever faint rustle of the trees
mingling with the chirpity chirp of
the birds amongst their leaves.
The ebb and flow of tree to tree
breeze weaving in and out
a pleasant reminder
BLEEP! The world of ASAP imposes,
"I need," "What up?" "guess who I
f*cked last night?"
"You're so beautiful girl."
As if the singer of such belligerence
knew what Beauty was.
Perhaps at a moment in Life, but
that moments long gone and any recollection
stifled by the industrial Bleep!
absurdity of the modern world.
People laugh knowing not what
for, and cry for not having gotten;
Yet lives fall face down in the
sands of Arabia or shrivel in the
Sahara sun and no one but the
buzzards seem to care.
What a world this is
suffocated and stifled by the
industrial, technological din of the
modern world.
So many have forgotten, if they ever knew,
the calm which comes from the stillness of a
breeze through the trees
while the birds sing and song
undaunted by the industrial, negligible,
forgettable, not worth noticing din
of the modern world.
If only we were as wise.

Hope your NY weekend extravaganza is exhilirating.
I'm thinking of Transcendental writers today. I think I'll pick up my Emerson book and sit on my porch with Buddy and Baby Dots. Thanks for the push. Your poem/sketch/beautiful words did their job.
Thank you for your kind words. Its ill to be in correspondence with inspired people like yourself. Keep on keepin on.
