Ambition

Share your passion, be ambitious, follow your dreams.

So I was having a conversation with someone at work today, and we began discussing people, human nature, etc.

It began when I posed the question, " Why are we here? It can't be more than just survival. There's more to IT." There are a variety of answers I could imagine he'd use in response to this question. His was a rather stock answer, but one that raises an array of questions. "Survival, purely to survive", he quickly answered! "But what about all the things we enjoy?" According to him, all those things we enjoy, we've made for ourselves to enjoy, strictly for that purpose.

I've posted a blog entitled "Thoughts/Questions..." that was of the same idea as that conversation, but now after today, I'm all fucked up. What are we here for? I'm not ready to conform to any way of life before I try some shit. Not to mention I'm hell bent on making things better for future generations. Is that a waste of time? How do you change a large amount of people who don't seem willing to change. I feel people are way to comfortable. He got me thinking that's the way to live though. Just go about shit, get it done, and survive.

I know what I love to do but I don't picture making a living off of it. So how do you figure out what you really want to do and actually survive?

most people still dont know what they wanna do...

I agree with all of your thoughts on this topic, but there is something I would like to add that may help more..

the money will come through a job that is related to what you love doing...your field of expertise is also what you love doing, therefore narrowing your field of expertise in certain area(s) and the jobs that would be best for you.

Now if you dont follow, say you're a skateboarder...you dont just know how to skate...u know what i skater needs (board,pads,helmet..), you know what i skater wears...how a skater acts..and so forth. Which in turn leads to jobs such as...makin a new skate clothing line, being a skate teacher, marketing skate companies, etc..

You may love skating, but dont have the stuff to get sponsored by a company that will pay you to skate and wear their shit.

So what you have to do is go out and do something that INVOLVES what you loves.

I think about this exact shit every day too. Its almost comforting to know that others contemplate these same questions, but its uncomfortable to feel that we haven't yet figured it out. I truly don't believe that we are just here to survive, it can't just be that simple. Just as Anticlone and Merrittorious have indicated in the posts above, it really is about doing what you love. There is no point in getting involved in something that won't make you happy, intrigue your senses and motivate you to improve.

At this point in my life, this post poses the one question I'm really having trouble figuring out, so I'm glad its been asked...

"I know what I love to do but I don't picture making a living off of it. So how do you figure out what you really want to do and actually survive?"

I like where Merritt says, "If you really are happy, why would you want to have money? It wouldn't really make anything better. Besides, like I said, we're young, we got our whole lives ahead of us, and the way I see it, the cash will come, somehow."

This whole life, this game of life and money and career and safety and everything is just so confusing. Right when you think you understand something, fifteen other things come up that you never even thought of. I guess all we can be sure of is that we're here to be happy, we're here to share, and we're here to help each other.

Though it can be tough to operate through our daily lives with the man-made constraints of money and time, we must simply live to be happy, live to enjoy and work as hard as we can to follow our real dreams. Not all questions can be answered by oneself, however the only true answer to this question lies within your heart. Don't get me wrong, the answer is incredibly hard to find... but you wouldn't want something as important as how you live your life to be simple to figure out.

For now, I lean back on the advice of a few whenever I ask myself this question. Though they can't give an answer any better than we can, like us, they can at least try to give some guidance to others who are going through it.

"The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking."
- Albert Einstein

"No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking."
- Voltaire

Keep thinking, keep sharing, keep asking. This is all part of the journey.

I'd like to end with some advice from Bob Parsons (see the forum post 'Inspirational Words') ...

"The love needs to be there.
If you decide on a business and you literally love the idea of being in it, there is an excellent chance that you WILL find a way to be different. You will tend to work hard enough so one day, your business will tell you the secrets you need to know that will set you apart from the crowd.

Then there's Tony Hawk.
Consider Tony Hawk. He was able to take something that he loved doing — skateboarding — and make a career out of it. In fact, he's been a professional "skateboarder" for over 24 years now. Try as I might, I can't name another professional skateboarder, though I'm sure there probably are others. But the point is, Mr. Hawk loved skateboarding so much he was able to make an excellent living at it. To me that says it all.

So there you have it. Do what you love doing. It's that simple. There's also one more reason why you should do what you love. Life's short. Why spend your time at something that isn't fun?

It's all about enjoying what you do.
Remember my little brother’s saying: 'We're not here for a long time. We’re here for a good time.'"

Shit were here to just do what we love man. Either you support your passion with a bullshit job or your passion supports you. In either case your doing what you love regardless. What is the meaning to life? is it a crazy existencial question? i think its a bit simpler, dont think about it too much you'll go crazy

Dude, I think about shit like this all the time. you watch kids being idiots, about whether they think the same thing, and you watch people in traffic driving to work for some shit job they dont even like. You wonder if they lost their dream somewhere, or if maybe the real world came up and bit them in the ass. Personally, I figure it can be one of the two. alot of times, its probably people working to support a family, which is what they do. THey work at Inetech or whereever, but what they do is raise a family. I mean, thats not my cup of tea, but I figure, we got this whole life stretching out in front of us. I'm only 20, almost 21, and I think that as long as I keep up with what I love doing, or want to do with my life, I really won't have a problem. If you really are happy, why would you want to have money? It wouldn't really make anything better. Besides, like I said, we're young, we got our whole lives ahead of us, and the way I see it, the cash will come, somehow. I don't mean to sound like some hollow-headed optimist, but really, thats how it usually works out. you look at the captains of industry and leaders of today, then you look at what they were doing 15, 20 years ago, they weren't "Somebodies", they were just average schmucks, like you or me. People dont all get rich either, its about making a difference and doing what you love, i think. Like I said, i hate to sound cliched, but believe me, i wonder this stuff all the goddamn time, and really, this is what i came up with. I don't know though, it seems cool. I mean, teachers and all those people who have jobs that don't seem to matter or whatever, the ones that are in it becasue the want to, they are happy. And besides, ulitmately, they get summers off and a fat pension. Just keep the grind on, and do what you love, is what this rambling post is trying to say, so I hope it makes sense,
